The Bull Pen Farm Kitchen Reopens

A fresh take on a Radlett classic

New menu. New look. Same warm welcome.

Battlers Green Farm’s original eatery, The Bull Pen has undergone a contemporary update to its menu, interiors and branding, as it reopens from Thursday 16th July 2026. Starting out as a small tearoom back in 1993, built in the original pen for the farm’s bull, The Bull Pen soon became a popular destination for locals and visitors to the area.

Regularly at capacity, The Bull Pen extended in 2018, increasing covers from 40 to over 120. Today marks the beginning of the next chapter in this local favourite’s ongoing evolution. Regulars will notice that best-selling dishes remain on the menu, with a reimagined and elevated flair to them. Dishes like the signature Welsh Rarebit, Full English and Jacket Potatoes.

“…But it is also time for something new” Paul Haworth, Managing Director of The Bull Pen explains. “We looked at sales figures and customer feedback and have made decisions to our menu offering from there, coupled with the instinctive, modern direction we want to move in. The updates we’ve made are to help future-proof our beloved Bull Pen, ensuring we are across the modern trends and seasonal ingredients food-loving palettes expect, whilst also being mindful to cater for our loyal customer base, who mean the world to us. We’re so thrilled to have a wonderful Head Chef in Abbie who is excited to bring some finesse to our menus.”

Abbie Mallinson joins The Bull Pen as Head Chef after running kitchens at the likes of Apple Butter in London’s Covent Garden and The Clink in Brixton. “I cannot wait to launch the new menu at The Bull Pen” Abbie comments, “It’s a truly unique setting with such history. It’s a real pleasure to be able to design a menu that speaks to both the location and story of the farm. Elevated flavours, gorgeous plating, seasonality and working with local producers is going to feature a lot in the new dishes.”

New menu items include a Smoothie Bowl, Buttermilk Pancakes, Mediterranean Flatbread, and Seasonal Farm Kitchen Salads, plus so much more. A separate Little Farmers menu aims to satisfy hungry young tummies, offering Little Pancake Stacks, a melt-in-the-mouth Toastie and a Sausage Brioche Bun. Alongside the Bull Pen’s most popular items, the drinks menu introduces new Bottled Beer by Hawkstone Brewery, cooling Iced Matchas (ceremonial grade), and Chai Lattes, among other additions. And it’s not just the menus that have undergone change.

And it’s not just the menus that have undergone change. Working with local Interior Designer Nadia Rose, the internal feel of The Bull Pen has also been updated. “We wanted to create something cohesive between what has traditionally been two very distinct areas of the restaurant – the original tearoom and the extension. We’ve aimed to soften the feel and inject some personality and farm history into this beloved community hub.”

Front-of-House Manager, Mary Lee is excited to speak to customers about the new items on the menu. “We’ve all been lucky enough, as a team, to sample each and every delicious dish on the menu to make sure everyone is ready for re-opening. It’s been a real combined effort, seeing the front and back of house teams rally together. I’ve been so impressed with the enthusiasm and cando spirit involved during our 2-week period of closure, getting everything ready for the reopening. Myself and the whole team can’t wait to welcome people back.”
